Chandrayaan-2 Landing Live Updates: Waiting to receive PM Modi, says Isro chief
Chandrayaan-2 Landing Live Updates:Chandrayaan-2 is just a few hours away from landing on the Moon. India's second mission to the Moon, the Chandrayaan-2 lander Vikram will attempt to land near the south pole of the Moon between 1:30 and 2:30 am Saturday. The lander Vikram houses the six-wheeled rover Pragyaan that will explore the lunar surface for around 14 Earth days. The Chandrayaan-2 mission also consists of an orbiter that will revolve around the Moon for around a year. Updates on the Chandrayaan-2 landing will come in from the Indian Space Research Organisation's headquarters in Bengaluru that is currently bustling in preparation for the history landing. Stay tuned with IndiaToday.in as we bring you the latest from the Chandrayaan-2 landing.

Chandrayaan 2 Moon Landing Live Updates: In a few hours, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will rewrite history by becoming the first space agency in the world to soft-land in Moon’s South Polar Region. Indians from world over and PM Narendra Modi at ISRO’s Bengaluru headquarter with scientists and students, and with bated breath, will witness the ‘most terrifying 15 minutes’ as Chandrayaan 2’s Vikram lander will power-descend from its orbit to soft-land between two Lunar Craters known as Manzinus C and Simpelius N. ISRO has informed that the tentative touchdown time for Vikram lander is between 1.30 am to 2.30 am on September 7. Once the touchdown is complete, ISRO will study the surroundings and wait for the lunar dust to settle before Pragyan rover rolls out from Vikram Lander in the wee hours of September 7, most probably between 5.30 am to 6.30 am. ISRO’s successful landing mission on Moon surface would make India only the fourth country in the world after former USSR, the US and China to accomplish soft landing on the Earth’s only natural satellite.

Chandrayaan 2 Moon Landing Live Updates:The U.S. News Mutual Fund Score is produced using an equal weighting of the overall ratings provided by our data sources. (See information on their methodologies.) Individual fund rating systems are normalized to a 100-point scale based on point totals assigned to individual scoring systems. For Morningstar's and CFRA's five-Star ranking and Zacks five-point scale, each star or point awarded would receive 20 points. In TheStreet.com's A-to-E scale, a highly rated "A" fund would receive 100 points, while a low-rated "E" would receive 20 points. The five Lipper Leader categories are each worth a total of 20 points, giving 4 points to each 1-to-5 point scale assigned to each section of the Lipper rankings. The U.S. News score is calculated by dividing total points awarded according to the above system by the number data sources. The combined U.S. News Mutual Fund Score ranks funds numerically based on this score. Funds with identical scores to one decimal place are awarded the same numerical ranking.

Chandrayaan 2’s lander Vikram and rover Pragyan are expected to uncover the mysteries of the Moon’s South Polar region. It will investigate the possibility of the presence of water in the form of ice in the dark region of the Moon. So, stay tuned with Financial Express Online as we bring to you the minute-by-minute Live Updates of Chandrayaan 2’s Moon Landing.

The rover Pragyan will roll out from the moon lander between 5:30 am and 6:30 am, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said. It will carry out research, including a thorough mapping of the moon's resources, looking for the presence of water and clicking high-resolution images as well.

Chandrayaan-2 Moon Landing Live Updates: If successful, this would be India's first soft landing on the moon's surface. Only the US, the erstwhile USSR, and China have been successful in landing humans or machines on the moon.

Chandrayaan-2 Moon Landing Live Updates: Countdown to India's first lunar mission
Chandrayaan-2 Moon Landing Live Updates: Chandrayaan-2 would look for further evidence of the presence of water on the moon, and attempt to assess the abundance of water.
Chandrayaan-2 Moon Landing Live Updates: In a couple of hours, Chandrayaan-2’s landing module ‘Vikram’ will begin the final descent to the moon’s surface from the nearest point in its current orbit. The ISRO said everything related to the much-awaited touchdown, expected around 1.30 am, is going as per plan. If successful, this would be India’s first soft landing on the moon’s surface. Only the US, the erstwhile USSR, and China have been successful in landing humans or machines on the moon.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined the nation in wishing ISRO a success and said the mission manifests the best of Indian talent and spirit of tenacity. “Its success will benefit crores of Indians,” he said in a series of tweets.

The space agency's Chairman K Sivan has called Chandrayaan 2 the "most complex mission ever undertaken by ISRO". "We're going to land at a place where no one else has gone before. We're confident about the soft landing. We're waiting for tonight," Mr Sivan told news agency ANI.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and schoolchildren will see the historic landing live from the space agency's control room.

The region where the lander Vikram is heading on the moon that is little explored till date - most lunar landings have taken place in the northern hemisphere or in the equatorial region.

An older mission by China landed in the northernmost part, followed by Russia's Luna missions. Most of the American lunar landings, including Apollo missions, were in the moon's equatorial region. China currently has a rover on the dark side of the moon.

The success of the Chandrayaan-2 mission will make India the fourth country after the US, Russia and China to pull off a soft landing on the moon.

The lander Vikram and rover Pragyan's lifespan is 14 days. After that there will be another 14 days of darkness on the area of the moon where they are, and the temperature could dip to minus 170 degree Celsius. The Chandrayaan 2 orbiter's lifespan is estimated at one year, but it may keep working longer.

ISRO says other nations are also investing resources to reach the moon's south pole. The moon's craters in the south pole have been untouched by sunlight for billions of years - offering an undisturbed record of the solar system's origins. Its permanently shadowed craters are estimated to hold nearly 100 million tons of water.

The Chandrayaan 2 lifted off from its launch pad at Andhra Pradesh's Sriharikota on July 23 on board the giant heavy-lift rocket GSLV Mark 3. India's space scientists had a narrow one-minute window for their second attempt at launching the moon mission, a week after the mission was aborted 56 minutes before lift-off.

The GSLV Mark 3 - ISRO's largest and most powerful rocket - is 44 metres long or as tall as a 15-storey building.
Considering ISRO's budget is less than 1/20th of USA's NASA, a success story for the Rs. 1,000-crore moon mission, which cost less than Hollywood blockbuster 'Avengers: Endgame', would be a giant boost for India's space plans.

India looks to create history by becoming the first nation to reach closest to the Moon's south pole as the Chandrayaan 2 moon mission is scheduled to land on the lunar surface after midnight today. The moon lander Vikram that separated from its orbiting mothership has already performed two manoeuvres to lower its altitude for a perfect touchdown between 1:30 am and 2:30 am on Saturday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Bengaluru and will head to the ISRO control room to watch the historic moment.

The rover Pragyan will roll out from the moon lander between 5:30 am and 6:30 am, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said. It will carry out research, including a thorough mapping of the moon's resources, looking for the presence of water and clicking high-resolution images as well.
